I had a few instances that I was like.....HUH? when I try to complete a puzzle and had to look it up because the Logic was really really awkward. I think that it's a shame, when point & click adventure game have puzzles that are un-logic. people will need to look it up and they aretempted to use the guide for the rest of the game.Anyway, the voices were recorded well though! and story wise, meh not my cookie, very strange storyjust like the puzzles..I thought about it because point & click games are one of my favorite games and I do hope this genre stays. But since puzzles are mandatory I would have liked to give ain between rating , but since that's not possible I'm geared toward no... Memoranda is a point and click puzzle adventure, with a playstyle reminiscent of those point and click games from the 90’s. Memoranda is very much its own game, and doesn’t really ride coat tails, but the inspiration is apparent, in a good way. For me it recaptures the old head scratching style of esoteric puzzles and bizarre connections between items and characters. There are memorable characters, and their motivations will drive your progression through the game.Bizarre is another apt term for the game. It starts of realistically enough – Mizuki has memory issues and suffers from insomnia. Memoranda is about her confronting these issues, and explores this through her interaction with her hometown and the characters within. Without giving too much away, this all starts becoming surreal rather quickly. I enjoyed the surrealism because it is accomplished in a fantastic way.The graphics, and overall atmosphere in Memoranda is beautiful, consisting of beautifully painted backdrops and rich sounds. This comes together to achieve a strong ambience which complements the mood of the game well. There are puzzles in the game; some explicit ‘solve this puzzle here’ style puzzles, and others which are generally about connecting the dots between items in your inventory and things people have told you. I found some of these puzzles rather challenging and even consulted a walkthrough to help me.I believe Memoranda tells its story very well conveying humour, pathos and nostalgia beautifully through gameplay and exposition. It is not a very long game, but it accomplishes a lot in that time.. Happened upon this game somewhere before it was released, and I'm glad I did! Loved the graphics and the story. Some of the puzzles were really difficult to solve, and the vibe is a bit weird in general (in a good way). Wished the game is lot longer.. I'm absolutely in love with this game. First of all, I have to say, I really think this game isn't for everyone. It's based on short stories by a Japanese writer called Haruki Murakami. He's a really polarizing writer, which means that you either love him, or don't care much about him. This, for better or worse, also carries over to the game. However, as Murakami happens to be my favourite writer, this game was AMAZING.This, again like Murakami's work, is a game more about living an experience than about clear endings and answers, or about teaching you something. It's about something happening, and you being there to see it. It's a story about surrealism that is portrayed in such a natural way that it makes it seem normal. It's a story about cute characters with peculiar back stories. It's a story about an elephant vanishing overnight and about a girl that forgot her name because it ran away. You have to dive headfirst into the universe and let yourself to enjoy the ride without overthinking about anything to fully enjoy it. And that's not something that everyone can or wants to do, and that's perfectly valid.Prior to playing the game I've read from a lot of people that this game, being a graphic adventure, has what many consider a flaw from classic graphic stories, and that is that some puzzles lack any logic and more a matter of trial and error until you find a solution which can be really frustrating and keep you stuck in a certain point for a long while. I played the game with a guide at hand at all times, and I'd recommend doing the same if you fear about getting stuck, 'cause I don't really think it made the experience any worse or more lacking at all.I loved the art style of the game. I really think it fits the surreal mood of the game and the universe it portrays perfectly. The voice acting was remarkable, and the soundtrack, even without having much of a presence, works perfectly to set the mood of every scene and place you find yourself into.I loved what this game had to offer, and I'll be looking forward for future releases by its developers.9'5/10. Clearly inspired by Murakami, this was a genuine treat for me that spent wayyy too much time on my wishlist. I'll list pros and cons below, but the general summary is that if you enjoyed classic point-and-clicks (and aren't afraid of moonlogic or the need to look at walkthroughs) I would highly recommend this game...although it is short, so perhaps wait for a sale pushing the title below $10.Pros:+Really intriguing story that, like much of Murakami's writing, seems to live in and create a world of its own. +The storyworld opens up gradually and logically meaning that I never felt uncertain as to what to do next or like I didn't have somewhere new to explore.+Artwork is beautiful.+Soundtrack, sound effects, and voice acting are all professionally done.+In-character puzzle design: this is ALSO in the cons category, as this will definitely be a deal-breaker for many players, but the fact that the puzzles were so fitting to the protagonist and the story being told was something I really appreciated. Yes, they were difficult (and moon logic-y), but I'm not afraid of walkthroughs, so I was happy to turn to one when needed. I really liked the fact that this made the gameplay reflect the story, and hence become part of the narrative itself. Besides, the puzzles sort of reminded me of those in Monkey Island 2, where when I figured out that you could pick up animals and use them as objects, 1. my mind was blown, 2. I was kicking myself, and 3. it completely changed the way I looked at the gameplay and what was expected of me. It might not be for everyone, but I like that kind of experience.Cons:-As mentioned by many (and which I mentioned above), the puzzles definitely employ moon logic. As I discuss in my pros column, this really does suit the character/story you are playing, but if you're afraid of walkthroughs I would suggest steering-clear...or else be willing to perform a lot of experimentation in order to complete this.-Brief length for the price. As mentioned in my opening, the regular price is a little high for the length of gameplay...tg for frequent Steam sales!. The puzzles are too random to enjoy the game if you are determined to solve all the puzzles yourself. But if you are comfortable keeping the walkthrough open so that you can just click through the whole game and watch the story, is does make an interesting (and very odd) visual novel. I spent a lot of time thinking "I'm so glad I didn't try to work THAT one out myself". I admit that I thought they would furthar into more of the mental health issues that were hinted at, but I guess that's not what this one is about.. I liked the effort made trying to link it to Murakami's stories but unfortunately it felt like it affected the gameplay too much and felt to me like the events were random and not really related to my success whilst many of the puzzles did not make sense to me and made me very frustrated.. Good game, might be one of the best indie games ever. Puzzles to do and relaxing.. Without a guide I would have been stuck in this game forever and probably exited out in mere minutes. But that was almost a given since I usually don't play point and click games with little patience for backtracking in games. However, since I am a massive Murakami fan I definitely decided this was worth the purchase and play. And by the end, it was definitely an enjoyable story even if I may not understand it at all - a feeling I'm not too unfamiliar with. The bits and pieces that I recognized as Murakami story elements always put a smile on my face. The art, music, background sounds, and especially the voice acting were all soothing. Plus there's a Glenn Gould Bach record, definitely a plus in my mind!
